A COLD WAR THEATRICAL DOUBLE BILL COMES TO THE GUILDHALL STUDIO, PORTSMOUTH

THURSDAY 28 APRIL 2022 at 7.30 PM

Idle Discourse and Playgc Theatre Companies are delighted to be on tour with Tales from Star City by Dan Dawes and The Letter of Last Resort by David Greig in a timely, powerful Cold War double bill.

We will be at Guildhall Studio, Portsmouth on Thursday 28 April 2022 at 7.30 pm. Click here https://portsmouthguildhall.org.uk/whats-on/event/a-cold-war-double-bill-tales-from-star-city-the-letter-of-last-resort/ for tickets (£17.00/£10.00).

Suitable for anyone aged over 14 and especially those with an interest in politics, history, the military, the space race or the Cold War, do book!  Here’s more information:

Tales from Star City – The Soviet Union,1967. The Space Race is at its height. One woman at the centre of it all looks back on her dreams of being part of the great Communist movement during one of the most dramatic decades of the Cold War.

The Letter of Last Resort – Sometime later, London. On the other side of the Iron Curtain, the new Prime Minister is working late into the night when she is interrupted by a request – a letter needs to be written. It can only say one of two things, but its implications could change the face of the earth forever…

This pair of short plays explores the brightest and darkest moments of recent history through two tautly written and gripping dramas. They will leave you questioning the nature of power and asking how our political beliefs can really change our lives – and the world.

Over the last few weeks, the topics explored by these two plays have sadly become

incredibly relevant again. Both Idle Discourse and PlayGC – along with the theatres that we

are touring across the UK – are keen to support those impacted by the war in Ukraine as

much as we can. We are running collections in support of War Child, and will also be inviting

audiences to contribute via a fundraiser for the charity. https://www.warchild.org.uk/
